Iran makes linear accelerator for cancer radiotherapy

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers at a company in the central city of Isfahan have designed and built a linear accelerator employed for radiotherapy of cancers.

"By means of the accelerator, electron beam with high direction is made and has much power for treatment with electron and X-ray," said Head of the company Mehdi Keshmiri, adding that the devices have replaced other methods in many radio-therapy centers.

He said the device is fixed and occupies less space, adding that the accelerator with the photon spectrum and MV6 energy took two years to be completed.

He noted that electron accelerators can also be used in non-medical sectors including customs, sterilization and research purposes.
